Learning this spell is often the first step a necromancer takes along the
dark path. It conjures up a stream of negative energy in the shape of a
claw, which he directs into the target. This does a bit more damage than
the 'magic missile' spell which more upright mages would be acquiring at this
level of power. However, as is often the way with such foul magics, the
'tenebrous claw' has serious drawbacks: in this case, the claw cannot form in
direct sunlight, nor will it affect demonic or soulless creatures.
