This dire incantation calls up the powers of Hell to hinder the
victim in a foretaste of what may await him in the afterlife. Functionally
this is similar to the havoc wrought by the 'curse' spell, but much more
potent. Using this spell on good-aligned victims is unnatural, and is (or
so the theurges claim) considered by the Gods to be an evil act.

Unsurprisingly, this spell has no effect on demons and devils (who are
already damned and thus are unimpressed) or on angels (who are already home
free and thus also are unimpressed).
